Developing portrait styles and lighting

Have spent some time in the studio during the past week working up alternative lighting and posing styles so that I can offer a broader range of portraits, this included parading a number of people through the studio and looking to bring out a bit of their personality , well their perceived personality at least; the shot in this blog entry is of Dusty , a mad biker who works on the same site where I have the studio at Stonham barns, to look at this image you would think her was a hard nose B$^@)!-d but he is a bit of a teddy bear really. Looking forward to developing the styles even further.

Looking at Equestrian Photography …

•October 21, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Since deciding to spend a little less time travelling and more time at my home in Suffolk, I have been looking at areas where I can develop my photography on home turf, this has included landscapes , local portraits but one area that is really gaining momentum is that of rural life, field sports and equestrian. I have been researching how equestrian photography is worked currently and I am now trying to figure how I can put my own slant and style on it , perhaps with the innovative use of flash, location etc with the aim of securing either dramatic and stand out images or more relaxed reportage style shots that it both senses will move away from the traditional confirmation shots that everyone gets, or the ‘must have one foot here and the hoof turning out dear…’ statements , will this work ? who knows but it will be fun exploring and will yield a number of personal projects to develop a new style. As well as shooting my own equestrian herd ! I will be looking for willing owners to put their horses forward as part of this , but need people to be sensible as not every horse likes the camera , or more importantly the flashy lights that go with it.
